{Oh So Silly} Seattle Area Child Lifestyle Photographer

January 30th, 2012

So picture this scene. I’ve got the boys fed. Everyone’s gone potty. They aren’t fighting with each other. No lego robot wars are going on, or any stealth ninja Jedi swordfights. They even agree to sit on my little photography setup next to each other and I think, oh goodie! I’m finally going to get [...]

They even agree to sit on my little photography setup next to each other and I think, oh goodie! I’m finally going to get a nice shot of the boys together!

Then I snap the picture and get this. Ah well. I can always try another day. As much as I love the posed shots, I think the silly shots show off their personality much better.

Baby E., his three year old brother, and his parents came to visit me today for his newborn shoot. Baby E is a fireball who came four weeks early, so at the shoot today he was about the size of a full term newborn, about seven pounds. I have to admit, I have a real soft spot in my heart taking pictures of brothers together, and I was happy that Big Brother O. was amicable to posing with Baby Brother E for me and the camera. Even if I did have to break out the sweethart candy bribes. Big welcome to Baby E and congratulations on the new addition to the family!

Meet Baby E. I love shots like this, because it shows you just how tiny they are at this moment, and they’re never going to be this tiny again. Here he is, cradled by daddy.

Giddy up, little cowboy

Such sweetness! I love just how peaceful he looks here.

Don’t let all the sleeping poses fool you, he was a tough cookie to get to stay asleep. But when he was asleep, you could just nom on his little nose.

This is my favorite brother pose. Big brother is all, what IS this in my lap? Baby E is all, hey, I’m cool, just chillin’ in my blanket which matches my eyes.

Big Brother wasn’t so sure about all this picture taking.

They were much happier outside, I even got a little smile!

The new family of four!

Every year, we drive a little ways to see the tulips blooming up at the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival in Mt. Vernon, WA.  Last year there was snow on tulips in late April, this year we were greeted with blustery winds and a sky which rained before and after our visit, but not actually on us while we were there.  The Tulip Festival is beautiful and gorgeous and such a bright display of color and light in an otherwise dreary Pacific Northwest rainy day.  My oldest son even showed up in the Seattle Times  (not my picture) wandering around the tulip fields!

My favorite thing about the festival is looking at the flowers.  My boys?  Obviously, the puddles and jumping over them.   Followed closely by the tractor ride around the tulip fields.  I don’t think we were able to keep my youngest out of any of the puddles there, and frankly, there were a lot of puddles.  The look of sheer joy as he stomped his foot to see the splash come back up was worth the drenched clothes.  Overall, it was a cold and wet visit, but it’s a family tradition which I wouldn’t give up for anything.

Welcome to Tulip Town, Mt. Vernon, WA.  The tulip is world’s peace flower.

This is a storyboard, which tells a story.  In this case, I wanted to showcase all the gorgeous blooms from the different tulip varieties.

My oldest kept doing this for all the pictures.  I’m not sure if it was because it was super-windy and he liked the feeling of the wind between his arms, or he’s just being funny.  Most likely the latter.

See, the arms are up again!  He has a much more gleeful expression on his face in the red tulips, perhaps he liked them better than the pink ones.  :)

I tried to get both boys into the cute tulip action, but my youngest wasn’t having any inkling of cooperating with mommy.

I had much better luck sneaking up behind them.  I love how you can see the dried mud on both of them from their numerous falls in mud puddles while walking around the tulips.

This is perhaps, one of my favorite pictures I’ve taken of my boys.  I love that my oldest is still attached to the ground with some mud strings.  I love that my youngest is so bundled against the cold he looks like a sumo wrestler about to chest bump his brother.  And I love the puddles you can see them both trying to jump over.

Another storyboard.  This one showing off my oldest son actually jumping over a puddle.  I love the lean he has in the first picture!

Did I mention my son likes to jump?  :)

The required “go stick your nose in the flower, son!” pose.

By this time, he was wet, cold, tired, and oh so done posing for me.  I think his facial expression sums it up quite well.

Meet beautiful {Baby B.}

Such a lovely, cloth diapered baby!

My favorites are capturing moments like this between mommy and her new daughter

Look at those pouty lips

What’s better than kisses from big brother and dad?

Such a sweet look from big brother here.  I also love his hand on her back

All snugged up in daddy’s hands

Hello folks!  I took a break this summer as I spent more time with my family, and tried to adjust the balance between doing photography sessions and family life.  It’s been a challenge at times, and I thank everyone for their patience this summer!

I got back into the action photographing this delicious newborn boy last week.  He was very alert and awake, and poor little bub just wanted to nurse from his mama.  It made for a interesting photo shoot, but we got some beautiful awake baby shots before we finally got some fun sleeping baby shots.  Introducing baby boy P!

I had the pleasuring of meeting this family at Lincoln Park  in West Seattle for our photoshoot.  The mom had graciously responded to my inquiry about photographing her twin daughters for my portfolio.  I’m still working on building my skills in photographing siblings, and these cute one year old sisters gave me a run for my money!  Lincoln Park is a beautiful location, so we let the kids run around and I snapped away as many shots of them together as I could.  I was kicking myself as I got to the park as I realized I had forgotten my bag of toys, whistles, and snacks to entice the kids to look at my camera at home!  Alas, a lesson well learned.  Here’s a sneak peek of their photos.

Meet {Miss D} and {Miss E}.  Don’t let this fool you, they rarely both looked at the camera at the same time for me.

Their mom bribed them to sit still with snack foods.  I have a lot of shots with one of them eating.  :)
