{Apples in Autumn} Seattle/Eastside Lifestyle Photographer

We’re very lucky to have quite a few apple trees in our backyard. Every year when we have a harvest, I take a few dozen apples and do a mini-photo session with my boys. It’s been fun looking back on past pictures, seeing how little they once were (we started when my youngest was a wee baby at a month old!), and also, how far I’ve come in my photography. As my boys have grown older, it’s also made me get much more creative in capturing their true personalities on the camera. My oldest was born to be in front of an audience, and shines for any sort of spotlight. My youngest son is much trickier to try to coax a real smile, and not a cheesy, stiff smile, out of his little face. And then, there is the age old struggle of getting them to not to team up in brother solidarity and give me the two brother smirk of death. ūüôā I think every parent knows the struggle of trying to get a good sibling photo, without any tears from mom or children, at the end of the day. Overall, it’s a pretty fun time, and I know that we’ll all appreciate these memories. I hope that I have a lot more apples in autumn pictures in the upcoming years.

Apples, boys, and this year, our dog!

They can be pretty cute, and they know it.

Such handsome fellows, but goodness, STOP GROWING UP BOYS!

applessb4wm

Most of my photos of them look like this. I admit, I enjoy the laughter photos the best.

Not exactly what I had in mind when I asked them to pose together…

Double smirk mode, on!

My youngest son is definitely a character. I could fill an entire album with all his fun, facial expressions.

Why yes mom? You said to look at you. You didn’t say anything about smiling.

Love these two. <3

I always love getting calls from clients when they have a new addition to their family. I had done a newborn session with this family for their previous daughter a few years ago, and they called up me again to do a newborn session for their second daughter. It was fun to reconnect, see how big the babies have grown, and capture their growing family for them. To include brother and sister in the session, they got to pick out fun hats for their new baby sister for me to photograph her in, plus I brought along some coordinating tutus that big sister adored as well. Introducing, Baby C., 20 days new to the world!

Meet the cutest sock monkey in town!

I had the great fortune to try out Excy, which stands for exercise cycle. It is small (less than 10 lbs!), folds up compact, flat, and portable, and you can take it and use it anywhere. In full disclosure, I am friends with the co-founder, Michele Mehl, and took the product photos below. But I do own an Excy of my own, and believe in the exercise machine. Being a busy mom myself, I know how difficult it is to find time in my schedule to fit in exercise. I’m often at school, at photo shoots, at taekwondo or soccer practices, meets, or games. Plus, I live in a small house, and space is a premium. Excy is sincerely the best exercise equipment for my busy lifestyle, hands down. I use it on my arms and legs, but mostly legs. It’s easy to set up, and I can use it laying down on the floor, or sitting up on a chair or couch. Did I mention that I live in a small house? Since the Excy folds up flat, it is SO COMPACT it takes up a minimum amount of space in my home. Also, since it is compact, it takes up little space in my (small) car, along with the kids, soccer gear, camping chairs to watch the soccer practices, and taekwondo gear that I cart around as well. It’s just a brilliant invention, and I’m happy to share it with you.

Excy excellence points:

  • portable and compact
  • can use on arms or legs
  • do cardio or strength training
  • less than 10 lbs
  • easy to use for anyone!

For a limited time, blog readers can get a 20% discount on Excy! Just use discount code, Alexrocks. Please, go check it out, and enjoy exercising for once!

Meet Michele Mehl, co-founder of ExCy, and all around exciting human being.

Meet Grandma D. She lives up here on the Eastside, and her family surprised her with an impromptu family reunion last weekend. Both her kids, and the grandkids, and extended family. I was fortunate enough to be asked to photograph them while they were here for the afternoon. We met up at Juanita Beach Park in Kirkland, where we had a fun afternoon with some great, cooperative September weather. Thank you for letting me capture your family moments, and I hope you enjoy the memories!

Welcome! My friend’s daughter, T., ¬†graciously agreed to be my senior model guinea pig this last week. ¬†After talking to her for a bit, I learned that she was a geek ( like me! ), loved the Avengers, reading, music, and was up for anything I would subject her to in the photoshoot. What a willing model! We decided to go to Olympic Sculpture Park in Seattle as our location, since she had never been there, and it had a great, funky vibe that seemed to go with her personality. One thing we did not count on was the unpredictability of Seattle weather! Within half an hour, it started to rain. Then, the rain turned to a downpour. Still, she was up for more photos, so we continued onward at the Seattle Public Library downtown. It ended up being pretty fun, and I hope that the pictures showcase her personality. ¬†Thank you again for the great time, T.!

Meet T! She has the best smile.
