Last week was the Spring Equinox! In the PNW, we had a gorgeous weekend full of sunshine and temperatures reaching almost 60! But then, the real Seattle spring set in, with grey skies, lots of wind, and intermittent showers. So bring up my mood, here are some pictures I took last year at the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival. We go every year since it around our oldest’s birthday, and I love getting a picture of him in the tulips. These bright, colorful flowers would cheer up anyone’s mood and put you in the mood for spring. Happy Equinox!

There are so many varieties of tulips, I couldn’t pick one as a favorite!

Fields of tulips

It was a wee bit cold and windy when we went up, hence the layered scarf and hat look he’s sporting.

It had been raining all spring, so there were lots of mud puddles. I saw a lot of this.

Accompanied by a lot more of this.

I love this – a perspective of my oldest throughout the years. That first year, he was barely taller than a tulip!

My, how times have changed.

I think the kids were way more interested in the mud than the tulips.

So. Much. Mud!

We adults spent time checking out the beautiful fields and fields of flowers.

The kids spent time checking out the really big tractor. Flower vs. Tractor? TRACTOR WINS!

See? It was a pretty impressive tractor, i do have to say.

We were able to get a family shot out in the flowers, however!

But by the end of the day, most everyone looked like this.

I’m very behind on my blog posting! This sweet family was actually shot back in September 2010. Baby A was adorable and so alert for a newborn. I have to admit, all the baby girl newborn sessions end up with very alert and sweet babies. Baby boy newborns tend to be sleepier. I guess girls really do want to have fun!

Meet Baby A.

Hello, pleased to meet you sweetness! Look at that eye contact for a newborn, so alert!

Taking a moment with dad

I love how little she looks in dad’s hands here.

I did manage to capture some sleeping shots as well.

Hello Miss A!

Big brother snuck in for a shot or two as well.

So much cuteness in one family.

Once outside she did cooperate to fall asleep

Mom and Baby A

The entire family. Thank you for letting me capture this moment for you!

Baby E., his three year old brother, and his parents came to visit me today for his newborn shoot. Baby E is a fireball who came four weeks early, so at the shoot today he was about the size of a full term newborn, about seven pounds. I have to admit, I have a real soft spot in my heart taking pictures of brothers together, and I was happy that Big Brother O. was amicable to posing with Baby Brother E for me and the camera. Even if I did have to break out the sweethart candy bribes. Big welcome to Baby E and congratulations on the new addition to the family!

Meet Baby E. I love shots like this, because it shows you just how tiny they are at this moment, and they’re never going to be this tiny again. Here he is, cradled by daddy.

Giddy up, little cowboy

Such sweetness! I love just how peaceful he looks here.

Don’t let all the sleeping poses fool you, he was a tough cookie to get to stay asleep. But when he was asleep, you could just nom on his little nose.

This is my favorite brother pose. Big brother is all, what IS this in my lap? Baby E is all, hey, I’m cool, just chillin’ in my blanket which matches my eyes.

Big Brother wasn’t so sure about all this picture taking.

They were much happier outside, I even got a little smile!

The new family of four!

One of the wonderful things about living in this technological world is making friends with people both near and far from you. People with whom you may never have interacted with or been able to meet before, people who become friends who support you through the times of joy and the times of sorrow. One of these friendships I made through an online journaling group, and she recently had a baby which I was blessed to meet and photograph. Thank you for letting me capture this sweet moment of his life!

Meet Baby B, newest addition to the family!

Don’t let that first picture fool you, he was awake for most of the photoshoot, checking things out.

But when we did get him asleep, he was oh so sweet.

I call this his fighter pose. Check out the little fists!

I love getting pictures of mom and baby together. So often we’re behind the cameras, and don’t get to capture these moments with our kids.

Since he wasn’t sleeping, we took him outside and let him check out the world. Hello world!

We snuck in a picture or two with dad as well.

He still doesn’t look too sure about this “outside” concept

And a family shot as well

Meet beautiful {Baby B.}

Such a lovely, cloth diapered baby!

My favorites are capturing moments like this between mommy and her new daughter

Look at those pouty lips

What’s better than kisses from big brother and dad?

Such a sweet look from big brother here.  I also love his hand on her back

All snugged up in daddy’s hands

A quiet moment between mom, dad, and newest addition

Look at all the toesies and feet!

Love this one of mommy and baby outdoors

You know I can never resist a baby in a hat!

Meet {Master R.}.  He’s so happy to see you!

It took a little while to warm up to me, here are some Very Serious Baby expressions

I love the double baby look here, you can see his entire reflection under his feet

{Miss L.} in a rare moment actually looking at my camera

They were such good sports about posing in all the random park places I found

I love her intense look here.  We were checking out the ducks and the baby ducklings.

Silly faces and backlight are the best!

I followed {Miss L.} around the playground, here she is sliding on the zip line.  Way to go!

Her hair was all sorts of awesome after coming down the slide

Mom is a teacher, so I thought it appropriate to pose them here at the first schoolhouse in Bothell.  {Miss L.} had other ideas about being in the shot.

I love this hand holding moment

Love her intense look here!

{Miss L.} was done with the shoot by this time, here she is waving bye bye to us

We took our first family vacation last August to Oregon.  We learned several things, mainly that my youngest son’s limit in the car is three hours before he starts the real screaming.  🙂  And that driving during the hottest day of the year in the middle of the day is no fun for parent or child!  We first went to my husband’s family reunion, which also happened to be his grandmother’s 90th birthday party!  It was a blast to get together with his family, and seeing all the great-grandchildren together in one place.

After the reunion, we headed to Astoria, OR and had a little mini-vacation.  Astoria is a beautiful place, and coincidentally also where they filmed the movie The Goonies.  This being our first “family” vacation, we were happy that there were a ton of museums to visit and most places were very kid-friendly (for more kid-specific information about Astoria, visit the Cascadia Kids blog!).  We also visited Cape Disappointment for some lighthouse fun and hiking adventures.  Overall it was a very enjoyable first family vacation!

Great-grandma B and all the grandkids.  This is probably my personal favorite as to all the pictures I’ve ever taken.  I love the look on Great-grandma’s face as well as the fact that all the kids are actually looking at the camera!  (smiling would be asking too much 🙂 )

This is a funny picture as you can see all the kids’ feet under the fence, and if you look carefully, you can also see their fingers in the knot holes within the fence itself.

We stayed at Clementines B&B in Astoria, and would highly recommend it!  Not only was it family friendly, but we had our own little suite complete with a kitchen area and lounging room downstairs that was separate from the bedroom upstairs.

This house, which was directly across the street from our B&B, was used in the film The Goonies.  It is not the actual Goonies house (which is also located in Astoria).

My oldest son in front of our B&B, giving me his best-fake “CHEESE” smile.

My youngest, being held up my dad.  Also in front of our B&B

This was painted on the side of a Post Office while we were driving back across to Washington.

The Cape Disappointment lighthouse.  I did this hike with my youngest asleep in the sling, only to find out when we got there, that the lighthouse was not open for tours!  Needless to say, I was very disappointed.

My husband and our older son hiked here instead (the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center).  Here’s the view from the Cape Disappointment lighthouse.

My oldest son had a great time exploring in the woods alongside the hiking trails

My youngest spent a lot of time exploring the trails as well, and not so coincidentally, walking away from me and the camera.  🙂

A nice daddy-son moment

And my favorite shot of my two boys from the trip.  🙂
