Tiny handprints are a sweet and easy way to remember just how little your child was once upon a time. There are a ton of different handprint and fingerprint craft ideas on Pinterest and around the web. Last year my kids and I did thumb print snowmen and had a blast making them. We used them as gift tags, and note cards as well. This was a pretty easy and fun craft! I even let my older son cut out the edges with pretty scissors and he was so excited to be able to make the tags.
We precut all the tags and then I let the kids go to town

My son was a machine! He lined them up and whipped them out assembly line style

I love how my sons accessorized the snowmen. Scarves, check. Hats, check. Purse, check!

We even made thumbprint Christmas trees next to some of the snowmen

And of course, a thumb print snowman was the perfect card to leave for Santa’s cookies

{Santa Beard Props} – Redmond/Eastside Lifestyle PhotographerDecember 2nd, 2011We live in the Pacific Northwest and spend a lot of time outdoors. We live in the Pacific Northwest and spend a lot of time outdoors. My husband is also an avid commuter cyclist, so we also spend a lot of time at REI. Last weekend we were at Redmond Town Center (which is kind of an outdoor mall) so he could gear up for winter cycling. Since I’d rather chew my arm off than deal with two rambunctious kids inside such an interesting store as REI, the boys and I hung around outside and played while he got to do some shopping. I had made some simple Santa beard props (white paper glued onto a popsicle stick), and had some fun having the boys pose with them while we played outside.
Santa beard! This smile just cracks me up because you can see he’s missing some front teeth.
This was about as cooperative as my youngest got with his Santa beard prop
One of my children was very cooperative in posing and smiling for mommy. One of my children was way more interested in waving his prop around and hamming it up for the camera. Can you guess which child was which?
They have a great little music park at Redmond Town Center. I love the green fence behind my oldest contrasting here with his red hat.
My youngest was more interested in the bread I was using as a bribe, than smiling at mommy.
At the end of the day however, his true personality comes out. I call this the Joey Tribbiani pose, with a “Hey, how YOU doing mommy” look in his eyes
Peek a Boo! I see sheer joy in a child’s face.

It’s been a long time since my last blog post, but I figured that I should dust off the old blog and share what’s going on in my life lately. I’ve been taking a break from the business side of photography for the past year for various reasons. In taking this break, I’ve reconnected to what drew me into photography in the first place, which was my love of capturing the joy and wonder every time my kids learn something new. Lately, we’ve been enjoying our gorgeous dry, fall weather. One good thing to come out of the obnoxiously bad Seattle summer was that we’ve been having a lovely, lovely fall. The leaves around here have been turning GORGEOUS colors. At every park, and every walk, the boys and I pick some leaves off the ground, take them home to press, and then I had a bunch of pretty leaves for pretty art crafts and projects.
Leaf Fight!
Dried, pressed leaves ready for crafting. I love the assortment of colors.
I used this leaf lantern tutorial to help make these lanterns with the boys. They used them as flashlights for our nightly walks.
Then we took up mask making.
First we painted on some glue
Then we added glitter. Lots and lots of glitter.
Lots and lots and LOTS of glitter.
And after drying overnight, voila! Who is that masked child? I think he looks a little bit like an owl.
My youngest was very very serious behind his leaf mask.
And even mom and dad got to join in on the leaf mask fun as well

I haven’t been to the Pacific Science Center very much, even now that I’m a parent. We were invited to go with some good friends to celebrate their son’s birthday. It was quite a treat! I think the most fun was had in the butterfly exhibit. Both my boys had butterflies land on their shirts, and they walked around very proudly displaying their little friends. The birthday boy even had one land on his head! He sported quite the fun butterfly mohawk along with a smile that stretched from ear to ear. So if you are local, totally go, and take your kids! They will have a blast.
The boys had a blast (literally!) playing with the outside water exhibits
The kids really enjoyed the caterpiller statue life
Samuel and the birthday boy!
Albert thoroughly enjoyed the exhibits as well
Giving me their best “blue steele” faces
Look! A butterfly landed on Albert.
He was so proud of his new little friend.
Samuel was very impressed by the brave little butterfly
Hey, at least one kid was smiling.
Samuel was so glad to have his own butterfly friend
Butterfly mohawk!
